We want to thank you for partnering with us to help the homeless and housing insecure of Downtown Indianapolis. Once you have decided in what way you want to commit your time and talents to help our community, please reach out to us at triohomelessministries@gmail.com or by using the chat icon so we can coordinate with you the best way to make it all happen!
If cooking is a passion of yours, and this is something that piques your interest, we would welcome your home-cooked meal! If we will be taking it downtown, we recommend a large pot of soup or a casserole dish. This is easier for us to transport.
Looking for something a little more simple but still want to feed a bunch of hungry bellies? Sandwiches are the way to go!
We suggest peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or meat and cheese.
We have found the best way to package the sandwiches after preparing, is to put each sandwich in a ziplock bag and then put them right back into the bread bag. Just stack the sandwiches like the loaf came. This will prevent the bread from getting smashed during transport. If you are making the sandwiches the day before you deliver to one of the drop-off locations we recommend that both kinds of sandwiches be refrigerated over night. This will prevent the jelly from getting the bread all gooey.
For those of you who desire to be more "hands on" and want to work directly with the homeless during our serving times there are ways to go about doing so. However, it would require you to be independent but serving alongside us. All of our positions at our stations are filled with our homeless friends who have a desire to work with us to give back to our community.
Here are some ideas that may help:
1.) Bring a prepared meal to serve 60-100 people, including a table, any supplies, and drinks needed for our homeless folks.
If you are super motivated and have the resources to transport everything, pack up your grill, some hot dogs, and hamburgers with all the fixings to have a cookout with the homeless!
2.) Prepare and handout backpacks or drawstring bags with various items that they can use for outdoor living such as hats, gloves, hand warmers, ponchos, insect repellent, sunscreen, portable snacks, hygiene products, toiletries, etc.
3.) Do you desire something a little more simplified? Bring cases of water and a treat of some sort like donuts or cookies.
We welcome your partnership with us but ask that you please coordinate with us before jumping in and serving the homeless during our scheduled serving times. We may have several other groups serving alongside us on a particular date and parking is limited. We want to ensure the safety of you all and our homeless guests while navigating the cars in and out from under the bridge.
